
What is the Canadian Experience Class (CEC )?
If you are currently working in Canada on a work permit, you may be able to apply for Canadian permanent residency under the Canadian Experience Class. The Canadian Experience Class is one of three programs you may be able to apply for using Express entry.
To qualify under Canadian Experience Class you must:
- meet the required language levels needed for your job;
- have at least 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada, in the last 3 years before you apply. The work experience must have been full-time or an equal amount in part-time;
- have been working in Canada legally.
What is skilled work experience?
The Canadian government has assigned a special code to almost all job types performed within Canada. The system through which codes are assigned is called the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system.
To apply under Canadian Experience Class , your work experience must be in a NOC code that falls within either Skill Type 0, Skill Level A or Skill Level B:
- managerial jobs (skill level 0)
- professional jobs (skill type A)
- technical jobs and skilled trades (skill type B)
Your work experience must also have been paid, full-time or the equivalent hours part-time.

You don’t need to show that you have enough money to support yourself and your family if
you’re applying under the Canadian Experience Class.
