If you have applied for a Canadian study permit or you already have a Canadian student permit, or if you are looking to study in Canada, but you are uncertain about your ability to travel to Canada to pursue your studies because of all the closures that have been caused by the coronavirus pandemic, you will now be able to travel to Canada to pursue your studies.
Effective Date of Travel
The good news is that the Canadian government announced that effective the 20th of October 2020, it would be allowing persons who have been issued Canadian study permits to travel to Canada to complete their studies notwithstanding the issues caused by the Covid 19 pandemic.
This is great news for students who are already pursuing their Canadian studies, but who are outside Canada and are completing those studies remotely. It’s also great news for persons who are in the process of applying, and it is equally good news for persons who are contemplating applying to study in Canada.
Before 20th October 2020, persons on study permits and who were issued those permits after 18th March 2020 would not have been able to travel to Canada. It was only possible for those persons who would have been able to travel to Canada to study before 18th March 2020 as well as students who were traveling from the US.
Mandatory Quarantine
Bear in mind that the requirements on the need for you to be quarantined are still in place. Notably, Canada currently has a 14-day compulsory quarantine period that applies to anybody who is entering the country. Re-entry into Canadian society will only be granted after completion of the mandatory quarantine period.
The upshot is that you will now be able to travel to Canada to complete your studies if you are currently on a study permit or if you’re in the process of applying for a study permit.
