The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program has different options for persons wanting to immigrate to Canada. One of the options available is the Express Entry Stream.
Generally speaking, if you are outside Canada and you are looking to move to Canada, you have the option of applying for permanent residency under a federally managed immigration program or a provincially managed immigration program.
Express Entry System
Alberta is one of the provinces that has an immigration option for persons wanting to apply for Canadian permanent residency. Express Entry is a system used to select eligible persons for permanent residence and it first allows you to create an Express Entry profile.
The Express Entry system selects eligible applicants who get into a pool of eligible applicants that are then selected by the Federal Government for some of its immigration programs, based on the number of points they have accumulated.
The Express Entry system also allows provinces such as Alberta an opportunity to choose eligible applicants from a preselected pool of eligible applicants. Through the system, the province of Alberta is able to source and select candidates from the pool based on its identified unique labour needs.
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Express Entry Stream
The Express Entry System is based on available information that is on the Express Entry Portal. For you to be considered under the program, you would have had to create an Express Entry Profile beforehand.
Express Entry Profile
For you to have created an Express Entry Profile, it would mean that you must have already completed your English or French language exam and scored at the applicable level. You would also need to have gotten your educational credentials assessed.
Further, for you to have an Express Entry Profile set up, you must also be in the pool of eligible applicants. After setting up the profile, the province of Alberta is able to log into the pool and identify eligible applicants. Hence, you do not need to reach out to the province of Alberta to inform them that you are interested in the program.
Nonetheless, you would need to indicate in your permanent residency application that your province of preference is Alberta. If you indicated that your interest was to move to another province in Canada, then that will render you ineligible for the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program.
Notification Of Interest Letter
If you meet the province’s criteria, the province will reach out to you and give you a notification of interest letter. Once you receive the letter, you would need to respond within two weeks of receiving the letter, after which they will provide you with instructions on how to respond.
Like all other immigration programs, there is no guarantee that you will receive a notification of interest even if you meet the selection requirements.
Job Types
For you to qualify, you must be working in an occupation or job type that is one of the categories that the province of Alberta has identified as being important to its economic development and diversification. If you are working with one of the job types that the province has not identified as a priority occupation, it would be disadvantageous for you.
Express Entry Score
There is a prescribed Express Entry score that you must have attained for you to qualify under the comprehensive ranking system. You must score 300 which is a very low score that is not difficult to meet.
Some of the factors that will increase your chances of receiving a notification letter are: if you have a job offer from an employer in Alberta and if you graduated from a Canadian post-secondary institution. Additionally, if you have relatives, particularly, a parent, a child, or a sibling who is a permanent resident or citizen living in Alberta, it would be to your advantage.
